Verification Policy

Masque's verified door is intended to establish that each member is a real adult and that the gender-based marker used by the product comes from the approved identity document, not an editable profile claim.

What verification establishes

• The person completing the check is present and passes the configured liveness and face-comparison workflow.
• The identity document is accepted by the configured provider and supports an adult result under Masque's age rules.
• The provider session is bound to the same Masque account and has not expired, been superseded, flagged, or blocked.
• The supported document-derived gender marker used for the verified badge and gender-based discovery is recorded.

Document-derived marker and profile wording

Identity documents and provider responses use different sex or gender terminology across jurisdictions. Masque maps only supported provider markers into its product categories. The mapped marker is not editable by the member and is the source for the gender-based verified badge and discovery filters. Masque does not infer or replace it from appearance, a selfie, pronouns, profile text, or conversation.

Members may optionally self-describe pronouns or other profile wording. Those fields do not alter the verified marker or badge. The exact customer-facing badge wording remains subject to counsel approval; this policy uses the neutral description "document-verified gender marker."

During prelaunch review, Masque displays the provider's supported M, F, or X category as a document-verified marker rather than translating it into a broader identity claim. These codes can have different legal meanings across issuing jurisdictions, especially X, so they do not by themselves prove that a member self-identifies as a man, woman, non-binary, intersex, unspecified, or any other particular identity. Counsel must approve any different customer-facing terminology.

Missing, unsupported, or conflicting results

Masque does not issue a gender-based verified badge when the provider omits the marker, returns a value the product cannot map, or supplies information that conflicts with a later provider correction or account record. Access may remain pending or be restricted while the member uses the documented correction, review, appeal, or reverification path. Support agents must not manually guess a marker.

Corrections and appeals

1. Use the verification review or support route and provide the Masque case or verification reference, not a document image in ordinary chat or email.
2. Masque checks the provider result, binding, workflow, and correction state.
3. If source data may be wrong, Masque may direct the member to the provider's correction process or a fresh verification.
4. The member receives a recorded outcome. A profile edit cannot override an unresolved provider marker.

A person who believes the process treated them unfairly may contact support. Safety and anti-evasion controls may limit the details Masque can disclose.

Reverification and revocation

Verification is not permanent. Masque may require periodic or risk-triggered reverification. Expiry, a provider correction, duplicate or compromised identity, account sharing, provider FLAGGED or BLOCKED status, or a mismatched binding can suspend the verified door immediately.

Data boundary and disclosure

The provider processes the document and biometric inputs. Masque retains the limited attestation described in the Privacy Policy. Other Masque members ordinarily receive the product badge, not the raw provider response.

No guarantee beyond the check

Verification reduces impersonation and underage-access risk; it does not guarantee a member's intentions, truthfulness, safety, compatibility, or ownership of every submission. Continue to use block and report controls.
