Away from the room with rules, off to where nobody is watching: that is the oldest move in the abuse playbook, and it is a sentence from our co-founder's own story. Telegram is where a lot of the adult internet ended up for lack of anywhere better, and the record of how that has gone is not ours to characterize. It is NCMEC's data and journalists' counting, quoted below with its sources.
None of which makes the people in your group bad, and that is the point. Most of adult Telegram is ordinary adults who wanted a room without their names on it and took the only door that existed. The door was the problem.

No. A Telegram account begins with a phone number; Masque never asks for one. Joining takes a handle and a password, not even an email, and verifying is a one-time ID check held by an independent provider.
Allowed, in the open, inside short public guidelines: adult nudity and adult sexuality pass; minors, gore, and hate never do. There is no gray zone waiting to vanish in the next policy update.
No, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. Rooms here can act on reports, which encryption would make impossible. If your threat model needs E2EE, use a tool built for it. If it needs rooms where bans hold and every member is a real adult, that is what this is.
