Why Masque
A faceless post in a huge public forum may feel anonymous. It is not private. Thousands can view without interacting, while a few collect clues.
28.8 million
American women stalked
1 in 3
Young adults, image abuse
98.9%
Of one year's images: women
Helpline caseload for one country, not population prevalence.
98.7% of female stalking victims said they feared for their own safety or someone else's. The record says the fear is accurate. Of women murdered by an intimate partner, 76% were stalked in the year before their death, and a 2018 meta-analysis puts the increase in risk at threefold.

One website. One community. One day.
Drawn from the public record and from counts we ran ourselves. If you have ever posted as a woman on one of these platforms, this machinery was already running around you. Scarlett lived this loop. Masque exists because nothing inside it ever stops on its own.
01
One community on one platform: r/GoneWild, roughly five million members, about a thousand new posts a day. Every post from a single day we measured is still retrievable from a public archive, including the 130 Reddit had already deleted. Deleting it deletes nothing.
02
The friendly one, the generous one, the patient one. The pitch is always the same, in Scarlett's words:
“always the same move: get me somewhere else. Off the subreddit, off the stream, onto Discord, onto Snapchat, onto Telegram. Away from the room with rules, off to where nobody is watching.”
03
More photos, or money, or both. Sextortion is the single most reported harm to the UK's national helpline, 22.7% of everything that comes through the door. Recorded offences of threatening to share intimate images rose 344% in three years.
04
One exposure forum has 2.2 million registered users, pays contributors per upload, and runs a request board where members post a woman's clothed photos and handles so somebody else will go find the rest. The UK regulator is investigating boards that sort women's stolen images by area, as specific as their town, village, or university halls of residence.
No penalty. Back to the well.
She reports it and he comes back. Researchers filed fifty reports with X: all twenty five copyright claims came down within a day, and none of the twenty five non-consensual nudity claims came down at all. A federal appeals court watched families report images hundreds of times while content was removed “only for it to be reposted shortly afterward. This cycle repeated again and again.” Banned accounts come back as new accounts.
Around the loop she loses more on every lap. He never loses the account that matters, because he never spends one. The room lets him back in and calls it growth.
People who love posting call these places community. The people hunting them found a paradise: unlimited free accounts, nobody at the door, and moderation graded on growth.
121.4 million
daily users reported to Wall Street, while families reported the same images hundreds of times.
Families reported sexual images to Reddit hundreds of times. The Ninth Circuit recorded the content coming back again and again, held Reddit immune under Section 230, and the Supreme Court declined the case.
Leaving Reddit? What moves over to Masque, and what does not.
90%
of account-level reports ignored by design, New Mexico's complaint alleges, quoting Snap's own documents.
New Mexico's complaint alleges Snap's own documents say it plainly: by design, over 90% of account-level reports are ignored, and roughly 10,000 sextortion reports a month were counted internally as likely a small fraction of the abuse. The case is ongoing.
For the adult side of Snapchat: what is allowed here instead.
50+
bots that strip women, counted operating in the open, four million combined monthly users.
Telegram does not appear in NCMEC's published list of companies submitting child-safety reports for 2023, 2024, or 2025. In those same years, journalists counted more than fifty nudify bots running on it openly.
0 of 25
reports of a woman's body posted without consent acted on. All 25 copyright claims came down within a day.
Researchers filed fifty identical reports with X: all twenty five copyright claims were removed within a day, and none of the twenty five consent claims were removed at all. Only one of them carries a legal penalty.
None of these rooms is broken. Each one is doing exactly what it was built to do: grow. These companies report their health as one number, accounts, and every account is a unit of growth. An anonymous stalker running ten accounts is ten units. Removing him hurts the only number that matters, and protecting you does not appear in it at all.
“every one of them is graded on user numbers, and an anonymous stalker with ten accounts counts as ten users”
When payment processors forced Pornhub to verify that the people in its videos had agreed to be there, its library fell from 13.5 million videos to 2.9 million in about a day. Nobody had ever checked.
Everything above runs on accounts that cost nothing. A verified room runs on accounts that cost a real identity. That is the difference between blocking a username and removing a person.
“when I block someone, they are gone. Not one of their usernames. Them.”
“A platform that counts one stalker’s ten accounts as ten users will always have a bigger number than we do, and we have decided we would rather have the smaller one.”
This is an adults-only playground, and almost anything legal between verified adults is welcome in it. Nobody is here to grade your taste, and no algorithm is deciding your posts are too much.
The lines are the ones you would expect a serious place to hold. Nothing illegal. Nothing involving anyone under eighteen. No sexual violence, no depictions of real non-consensual harm, no threats, stalking, or targeted harassment. Cross them and the account ends, and here an account is a person.
Your identity documents, your legal name, and your date of birth are not on Masque's systems to steal. The independent provider that checks your ID keeps them. Masque is told one fact, that this account belongs to a verified adult, and stores an age band rather than a birth date.
Your email address is here, because an account needs one. If it were ever exposed we would tell you. We would rather you knew the shape of that risk now than read about it later.
No website can stop every screenshot, camera capture, or determined bad actor. Verification cannot read intent. Masque uses layered controls to make abuse harder to carry out, harder to escape, and easier to act on.
Every still photo delivered here carries a recipient-specific forensic mark, so a copy that surfaces elsewhere can usually be matched back to the account it was delivered to. It uses a protected random delivery reference, never a raw IP address hidden inside an image. It survives ordinary copying and recompression, it is not proof against every edit, and it identifies a delivery rather than an intent: a recovered mark shows whose copy it was, not who published it. Animated images travel without it.
No intimate photo is required. One bot network on Telegram publicly shared fabricated nudes of 104,852 women, and 70% of the targets were private individuals whose photos came from their own social media accounts.
About 7 million American women reported being stalked in the prior 12 months, one in twenty.
Four in five stalking victims are stalked with or through technology. Women are stalked at more than twice the rate of men, and fewer than a third of victims report it to police.
In an Australian government survey, nearly one in four women ages 18 to 24 reported image-based abuse. Half of victims believed they were recognizable, and 9% moved home or changed work or school.
About childrenIn child sextortion reports that named platforms, first contact was Instagram in 45% of cases and Snapchat in 32%, and Snapchat was the platform victims were moved to in 35.8%. These figures are about children.
About childrenNew Mexico's complaint alleges investigators set up an account for a fictional 14 year old girl and Snapchat's recommendations suggested nearly a hundred accounts to her within a day, including adults who then sent sexually explicit material.
About childrenSnap's own published research found 23% of its Gen Z respondents said they had been victims of sextortion and 37% said they had been groomed. Respondents were aged 13 to 24.
About childrenThe FBI's financial sextortion warnings count more than 13,000 reports and at least 20 suicides in 18 months. The victims are primarily teenage boys.
About childrenKorean police recorded 1,553 deepfake sex-crime cases in a year. 92.6% of victims were in their teens or twenties, and nearly 62% of suspects were themselves teenagers.
Removal does not end it. The UK helpline re-reported 61,213 images from cases it had already closed, a 260% rise in one year, and of 21,905 intimate image offences recorded by UK police since 2021, 4.8% led to a charge.
About childrenUK police recorded 7,263 child grooming offences in a year. Where the platform was identified, 40% happened on Snapchat, and four in five of the children targeted were girls.
About childrenReports of adults enticing children online rose from about 44,000 in 2021 to 1.4 million in 2025.
Telegram joined the Internet Watch Foundation only after its founder was arrested in France, having declined child-safety schemes for years. Charged, not convicted, and he denies wrongdoing.
The largest deepfake pornography site held 43,000 videos of 3,800 real people, watched 1.5 billion times, before it went dark in 2025. 95.3% of the people in them were women, and hundreds of the targets had almost no public presence at all.
In one month, 24 million people visited sites whose only product is generating nude images of people who never agreed. Advertising for them rose 2,408% in a year on Reddit and X.
By late 2025, more than 785,000 people had asked one nonprofit to block 2 million of their intimate images from being re-uploaded.
The law is finally moving. Since 19 May 2026, US platforms have 48 hours to remove a reported non-consensual intimate image, real or generated, with penalties of $53,088 per violation. Federal civil damages reach $150,000 without proving a dollar of loss, and all fifty states now criminalise it, the last of them in 2025.
Britain went further: since February 2026, asking for a fake intimate image of someone is a crime whether or not it is ever made, and building or selling the tools is now a crime too.
In that same ten-country study, men and women reported intimate images taken or shared at nearly the same rate, 22.7% and 22.3%. Women carried far more of the lasting harm. Nobody who posts is exempt.
For the design-minded, the two studies behind our accountability model: uncivil language appeared in 53.3% of anonymous news comments versus 28.7% where anonymity was not permitted, and showing community rules raised newcomer participation by 70% in a randomized experiment across 2,190 Reddit discussions. Verification is not a growth tax. It is the opposite.
Post and account counts on this page were measured across four full days, July 29 to August 4, 2026, from a public archive of Reddit: 907, 1,047, 1,089, and 917 posts. They can be reproduced from the linked endpoint. Everything else is somebody else's number, and every one of them is linked.
Reduce the clues before you post: reflections, windows, mail, landmarks, tattoos, audio, metadata, reused usernames. Find out what data brokers already expose about you, and opt out where you can. If harm starts, preserve the evidence, stop engaging, tell someone you trust, and get specialist help.
If you love posting, do it in a room where everyone is a verified adult and a ban is a ban. Have fun. Keep your private life private. Follow the rules.
