Our co-founder's letter opens with five words, I used to post on Reddit, and the rest of it is what that cost her. Deleting her accounts deleted nothing that mattered; the images had already been saved, reposted, and mapped against each other by people with time. The record below, on what stays up and what comes back, is the court's and the company's own filings, quoted with sources, not our characterization.
None of that makes the people in your communities bad, and that is the point. Most of adult Reddit is ordinary adults who wanted a room without their names on it and took the free door that existed. The problem was never that the door was free. It was that it was the only door, and everything behind it stood on the open web for anyone to save.
Masque rebuilds the shape those communities actually use. Halls carry posts, comments, votes, hot and new sorts, per-hall rules, and moderators. Circles hold the small group chats, salons the hosted audiences, and the reading room publishes fiction to the open web.
One hall, the Town Square, stands in daylight where the whole internet can read it, and a free account can post there and knock on a member's door. Every other room answers only to verified members, checked once by an independent provider that keeps the documents. An age past the square is proven, not typed into a birthday field.
A lot of adult Reddit is the gone-wild shape: people posting themselves, under a throwaway, for strangers. Masque has a hall for exactly that, called Gone Wild, a milder sibling for suggestion over exposure, and rooms for couples, hotwives, lingerie, and the rest. They are small, they are new, and they are members-only. Nothing posted in them is on the open web, and it never will be, because every reader inside passed an identity check.
What changes is the audience and the author. On Reddit the poster is a throwaway and the readers are anyone with a browser, which is how a post ends up saved, reposted, and mapped against your other accounts. Here the poster is a verified adult under a mask, every reader is a verified adult under a mask, reposting outside the house is against rules that are enforced on people, and every photo delivered carries a mark tied to the account that received it. A determined edit can defeat that mark, and we say so; what it changes is what a leak can be tied to, not whether a screen can be photographed.
Two honest limits. There is no gallery to browse without a ticket: the one public room is the Town Square, which keeps nudity out by its own rules, so a visitor who wants to look and never join is in the wrong place. And Masque is not affiliated with Reddit or with any of its communities; the hall is named for the shape of the room, not the site it echoes.
