Masque is a pseudonymous social network: you choose a mask at the door, prove a real adult identity to an independent provider when you're ready, and the mask is all anyone here will ever see. The freedom of anonymity, with a spine.

The internet has spent twenty years pretending there are two choices. Real names, where you are safe from nobody and accountable to everybody: one bad night lives next to your job applications forever. Or anonymity, where it is exactly reversed: the room belongs to whoever can make the most accounts fastest.
Pseudonymity is the old third option. Writers used it for centuries: a stable name, a real reputation, a private person behind it. What it always lacked online was a way to make one person hold one pseudonym. Verification finally supplies that, if a platform is willing to keep the verification and the pseudonym apart.
The separation is structural, not a policy promise. The identity check happens at an independent company that keeps the documents and returns a yes. Masque holds the mask you chose, an email address if you add one, and the yes. Members see the mask. Nobody sits in the middle holding both halves, and the halves are assembled only if law enforcement lawfully requires it, which is exactly where we want the bar.
That is the deal in one sentence: you are somebody here, you are accountable here, and Masque will never be the reason anyone finds out who you are.

On Masque a verified pseudonym is backed by a one-time 18+ and identity check held by an independent provider, so one human gets one mask. A free account is the same handle before that check, and it reaches only the public square.
An anonymous account is free, plural, and disposable, which is why anonymous spaces drown in bots and returning bad actors. A verified pseudonym here is singular and earned: it costs a verification and cannot be replaced by lunchtime. A free handle costs nothing, which is exactly why it gets no further than the public square and a knock.
